NC begins debate on political papers

KATHMANDU, Sept 19:  Nepali Congress (NC) general convention representatives formally began a debate on the political documents presented in the closed session.

Formal debate on NC´s plan and polices that includes the party´s view on current political situation, economic and social policy and programs, international relations and foreign policy concept and work plan to strengthen party´s organization of the document was presented in morning session of Sunday´s closed session. [break] The next closed session will begin at 9 am, Monday.



Nearly three dozen general convention representatives, including district presidents took part in the debate on party´s political documents in the afternoon session. They criticized the party for failing to bring its concrete concept on federalism, and unveil programs that could benefit poverty-stricken people and strengthen party´s organization.



According to participants in the closed session, the convention representatives also criticized the party for failing to control foreign interference in the internal affairs of the country. The representatives asked the party leadership to take initiatives to provide relief to conflict-hit people. They also complained that the local level party leaders continue to be under the threat of Maoists.



Among other things, the participants demanded rights for district president to nominate more members in the party´s district committee, give space to more youths in the party´s central working committee and make arrangements for distributing active membership of the party every year. Voices were also raised for revising the socialist policy enunciated by the party´s founding leader B P Koirala.



Convention representatives, including Chandra KC (Gulmi), Man Bahadur Nepali (Rukum), Narendra Kumar Kerung (Panchthar), Mohan Baral (Sindhuli), Tapta Bahadur Bista (Surkhet), Resham Bahadur Baniya (Myagdi), Mahadev Badu (Darchula), Ram Chandra Khadka (Ramechhap), Bir Bahadur Rana (Palpa), Ganesh Chand (Salyan), Ram Saroj Yadav (Dhanusha), Kamal Pangeni (Syangja), Bir Bahadur Balayer (Doti), Raghu Raman Neupane (Makawanpur) and Bikash Koirala (Chitawan) spoke on the occasion.



Kamal Bhusal (Arghakhanchi), Sita Devi Yadav (Siraha), Nara Bahadur Chanda (Baitadi), Krishna Bahadur Gharti (Rolpa), Sanjaya Gautam (Bardiya), Arun Koirala (Banke), Ain Bahadur Shahi (Mugu), Krishna Yadav (Rautahat), Uddhav Thapa (Jhapa), Devendra Raj Kandel (Nawalparasi), Hari Ghale (Gorkha) and Karna Bahadur Malla also commented on the party´s plans and policy documents.



Meanwhile, NC´s General Convention Election Committee removed banners hung by various candidates on the premises of Exhibition Hall. The posters were removed as the committee had banned the use of such advertising materials.
