According to NA Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Shumsher JB Rana is scheduled to attend the concluding ceremony of the two week-long joint military exercise. [break]
“The consolidated exercise is the continuation of joint military exercise that has been taking place for years between the two countries,” said NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadish Chandra Pokharel. The joint military exercise was being carried out at the company and platoon level in the initial phase.
The two countries commenced joint training at platoon level in 2011 and company level in 2012. The first two joint exercises focused on jungle warfare and counter insurgency operations.
An NA battalion under the command of a colonel had left for India about a week ago to participate in the training. Brig Gen Pokharel the training will be helpful not only in tackling counter terrorist activities but also in disaster management.
India is the largest military donor of the Nepal Army. India also plans to supply arms and ammunitions to NA after government decided to resume arms imports following the integration of former Maoist combatants into NA.
During the visit, CoAS Rana will also discuss the issue of arms import with the Indian side, according to NA sources. Director General of Military Training Victor Shumsher JB Rana, Brig Gen Suresh Sharma and Colonel Premdhoj Rana will also leave for India to participate in the concluding ceremony of the joint military exercise on Sunday.
