“The consolidated exercise is the continuation of joint military exercise that has been taking place for years between the two countries,” said NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Jagadish Chandra Pokharel. The joint military exercise was being carried out at the company and platoon level in the initial phase.

The two countries commenced joint training at platoon level in 2011 and company level in 2012. The first two joint exercises focused on jungle warfare and counter insurgency operations.

An NA battalion under the command of a colonel had left for India about a week ago to participate in the training. Brig Gen Pokharel the training will be helpful not only in tackling counter terrorist activities but also in disaster management.

India is the largest military donor of the Nepal Army. India also plans to supply arms and ammunitions to NA after government decided to resume arms imports following the integration of former Maoist combatants into NA.

Director General of Military Training Victor Shumsher JB Rana, Brig Gen Suresh Sharma and Colonel Premdhoj Rana will also leave for India to participate in the concluding ceremony of the joint military exercise on Sunday.
