Officials at MoHP said all these doctors had studied medicine under the government's scholarship program. MoHP had decided to deploy doctors in every VDC of the 14 districts worst affected by the April 25 earthquake. Hospitals in almost all these district have been damaged in the quake. MoHP said over 700 health centers have collapsed in the quake in these districts."We have deployed 58 MBBS doctors, who pursued medical studies under the government's scholarship program," said secretary at the ministry Shanta Bahadur Shrestha. He said MoHP would deploy additional medical doctors before the monsoon starts.
According to Shrestha, over 400 doctors need to be deployed in the highly affected VDCs but only a few have expressed readiness to go to the remote districts. MoHP informed that it has deployed additional seven doctors in Nuwakot, 10 in Makwanpur, and eight in Lamjung district. Likewise, the ministry has deployed six doctors each in Sindhuli, Dhading and Kavrepalanchowk districts. MoHP said four doctors each have been deployed in Dolakha and Okhaldhunga districts and three each in Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa and Gorkha districts.
MoHOP said it has been working to send additional doctors prior to monsoon. "Curbing epidemic during monsoon is our top priority. We will relocate other 'scholarship doctors' who have been serving in other districts," said Dr Guna Raj Lohani, spokesperson at MoHP.
