Upper bodice has constantly been the focal point in the fashion industry. However, now, it’s turn of the bottoms, giving us more options to choose for the warmer clime.
Jeans and linen-cotton trousers have switched their places. Jeans have taken a looser and thinner avatar like those of khaki and linen trousers. And skinny jeans and jeggings (the hybrid of pants and leggings) are available in khaki shades. Complement the latter look with high-tops or closed flats. Usually, sporting closed flats invite stinking feet, so it’s wise to wear tootsie socks with them.
Experimenting with silhouettes and volumes has helped produce new items. For instance, harem pants. Although it’s been a couple of years that harem trousers have picked amongst a wide range of crowd, the shape has been revised with narrower hemlines.
Slouchy soft pant with slightly tapered hem is another play with the volume. For maximum impact, feminize this version of bottoms with tighter and ruffled tops.

Along with the emphasis given to the volumes, there is a shift in waist-lines and textures as well. After an era of dominance, the low rise pants are slowly losing its charm. A couple of months back, high-waist jeans stormed the fashion stores and we are going to see more of that the coming season as well. High-waist denims and shorts rest in piles in the whole-sale stores of R.B complex.
However, as the denim is the least preferred apparel during the sweaty days; high-waist tulip skirt is its stylish replacement. Available in bold prints and solid colors as seen in the photo, the concept of tailored skirts being a formal wear is and will be challenged. Let’s take it down a notch like Spiderman fame Kristen Dunst. During Fall New York Fashion Week 2010, she teamed up a grey tees with black asymmetrical skirt. With such skirts and tees, one does not have to worry about being overly dressed or dressed down. Just throw in some statement jewelries, for more up-tight look.
Even high waist shorts are in the try-out list, if a skirt does not work for you. Work the look with a white crisp shirt or Breton print top—the ‘it’ print.
Now, as we have already picked up the talk about waistlines, we cannot miss belts. Market is full of skinny and wide belts with dramatic buckles. But obi-style belts are something that has gone unnoticed for a long time, despite its availability. Available in high-end boutiques such as in Yasmine’s in Durbar Marg, an obi-style belt is a sigh of stylish relief in the sea of similar looking leather belts.
After seeing many years of texture-less tshirts, dresses and shirts, its time for the feminine details such as ruffles, rosettes and ridges. And such textured tops have already hit the market in neutral and printed motifs. Or simply make a statement with angled, puffed shouldered tops.
And for the April issue of the US edition of Vogue has Gisele Bundchen on its cover. The Brazilian supermodel is sporting orange one-shouldered tops with high-waist shorts. Along with different palettes of orange, it will be the season of hues such as turquoise, acid yellow.
