Health Minister Basnet-led team monitors pharmacies

KATHMANDU, July 25: The Ministry of Health and Population has launched a monitoring of pharmacies across the country including the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts).

KATHMANDU, July 25: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has initiated a comprehensive monitoring campaign of pharmacies across the country, including the Kathmandu Valley (Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts).


The primary objective of this monitoring drive is to ensure that pharmacies are providing quality medicines and pharmaceutical products in compliance with the established standards, as stated by the Minister of Health, Mohan Bahadur Basnet.


As a part of the monitoring initiative, a government team led by Minister Basnet personally visited and inspected Time Medical Pharmacy in Patan, Lalitpur, Sewa Health Care Pvt. Ltd. at Ekantakuna, and Alka Hospital Pharmacy at Jawalakhel.

During the monitoring process, it was discovered that Time Medical and Sewa Health Care were selling expired medicines and medications that require a doctor's prescription, which is against regulations, according to Minister Basnet.


The Minister emphasized that appropriate action will be taken against the pharmacies found in violation, and the monitoring efforts will continue.


Accompanying the Minister were Director General of the Department of Drug Administration, Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Assistant Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, Amardeep Sunsar, representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, the Narcotics Control Bureau, Department employees, and members of the media.


The Ministry reported that 20 monitoring teams were mobilized in the Kathmandu Valley on the same day, and similar mechanisms have been established in all 77 districts to ensure continued pharmacy monitoring.
