The recently formed commission has come up with ambitious plans for the development of women volleyball in Nepal.[break]
The commission also decided to hold a nationwide beach volleyball tour from the mid-April at a press conference in the capital. "We are proud to announce the beach volleyball program within a week of the commission´s formation," Maskey said. The expected costs of the tour is Rs 1.3 million. "We will collect required amount for the tour from sponsors," Maskey informed.
The beach volleyball with the slogan "let´s play beach volleyball" will be played at eight places across the five development regions from Mechi to Mahakali and the main objective of the event would be to make beach volleyball popular across the country. The commission expects that the beach volleyball will be fruitful for the First South Asian Beach Games scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka later this year.
Meanwhile, the commission also decided to hold Presidents Cup International Invitational Beach Volleyball Championship in June. They have also planned to host college level beach volleyball and National Open Indoor Volleyball Tournament in the coming year.
Shuttlers off to India
A three-member Nepali badminton squad left for India on Sunday to participate in the Sushant Chipalkatti Memorial Indian Junior International Badminton Tournament. The tournament is scheduled to be held on February 24-27 in Pune.
Ratnajit Tamang and Mohammad Irfan Ansari are participating in the tournament as players while Mahendra Thamsuhang is the team Manager.
U-14 tourney to begin from Monday
Nepal Bank Limited Junior (U-14) Football scheduled to begin from Sunday at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato, was cancelled due to technical reasons. The event will begin from Monday, a press statement issued by the organizers All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) stated.
The opener scheduled to be held between Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club and Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) will be played on Monday and all other scheduled matches are postponed by a day.
Prime, NASA clinch titles
Prime and NASA won the titles of 16th Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college (10+2) Basketball Tournament under boys´ and girls´ section respectively on Sunday.
In the boys final Prime edged past National 61-44. Siddhartha Maharjan who scored 18 points for Prime in the title decider was adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament.
In the girls´ section, NASA had a narrow 31-28 win over Xavier International to take home the title. Samiksha Neupane top-scored with 10 points for NASA. The most valuable player of the tournament went to Seema Karki of the runners up team. Six teams each had participated in boys and girls section each.
Police advance into semifinal
Nepal Police Club advanced into the semifinal of Second International Club Workers´ Cup Men´s Volleyball Tournament on Sunday as the winner of group A.
Police were declared the group winners after they beat departmental rivals Armed Police Force (APF) in the first match of the day and in another enjoyed walkover from Eastern Railway of India.
Police registered a straight set 25-17, 27-25, 27-25 win over APF at the Martyrs Memorial Sports Ground, Bhaktapur. Imm Rana Magar of Police was declared the-man-of-the-match.
In another match, visitors Power Development Board of Bangladesh had a straight set 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 win over Myagdi Volleyball Training Center. Manir Hussain of the visitors was declared the man-of-the-match.
DAV, Galaxy victorious
DAV and Galaxy registered win on Sunday in the ongoing 4th Chief of the Army Staff Inter School Running Cricket Tournament at Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Bhaktapur.
DAV beat Brihaspati Vidyasadan by 22 runs while Galaxy humiliated Deepjyoti by 60 runs.
In the first match of the day, DAV won the toss and scored 107 at the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Prakash Yadav and Ayush Gautam scored 19 runs each while Ashwin Neupane of Brihaspati claimed two wickets. Yash Agrawal´s three wickets helped DAV to restrict Brihaspati on 88 runs. Abhusan Yadav was the highest scorer for the losing team with 23 runs.
In the other match, winning the toss Galaxy scored 104 runs losing all the wickets in 17.2 overs. Aditya Gupta scored 26 runs for Galaxy while Santosh Parajuli and Bhaskar Chhetri took two wickets each for Deepjyoti. Deepjyoti were bowled out for 44 runs in 8.1 overs. Aditya Pandey grabbed seven wickets in his four-over spell conceding only 10 runs.
