DANG, Oct 27: Leaders of three political parties on Wednesday urged the UCPN (Maoist) to come forward for political consensus.

Speaking here at the inauguration ceremony of Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha´s 20th Convention, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said, “There should be a package deal for peace and constitution-writing.[break]

” Stating that the parties have not been able to reach consensus even after his resignation, Prime Minister Nepal said the country has not been able to get a new prime minister due to the Maoists´ totalitarian attitude. He further said that the constitution writing process can be expedited only after the Maoist combatants are integrated and UNMIN leaves the country.

Similarly, NC parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel said his candidacy for the prime ministerial post was a tool to exert pressure on the parties to forge consensus and reiterated that he will not withdraw his candidacy until they reach a package deal.

Likewise, UML General Secretary Pokharel said the Maoists´ failure to translate their words into action was the main reason behind the protracted political impasse.

Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) Chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said ´big´ parties kept the ´small´ parties out of the decision-making process and that has been creating disputes among the stakeholders.

He also said the Maoists had not been unable to take other parties into confidence despite being a ´big´ party.
