Maoist-affiliated All Nepal Peasants´ Association (Revolutionary) declared the seizure of lands owned by senior Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader and former Prime Minister Chand and handed over it to the Setigaun Higher Secondary School.
According to Maoist Baitadi district deputy in-charge Dal Bahadur Dhami, the over 100 ropanis of land in Gukuleshwar was seized for building an agriculture campus on the order of UCPN (Maoist).
A group led by local Maoist peasant leader Gagan Singh Mal seized the lands scattered in various places in Gokuleshwar and Kotgaun by hosting Maoist flags on the lands, Dhami said.
Other political parties have condemned the land seizure.
Also some time ago, the Maoists had captured some other land pieces belonging to Chand.
Maoists said that they will seize more land and distribute to the ordinary people. Maoists said the lands were acquired by Chand by misusing his power and position.
Chief District Officer Keshav Prasad Ghimire said that he is unaware about the seizure and distribution of lands by Maoists.
