KATHMANDU, May 5: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called for a high-level commission to investigate the wealth of all individuals who have held public office since 1990.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Monday during a discussion on the government’s annual policies and programs, Dahal accused the government of turning the process into a mere formality. He criticized the government for discarding previous efforts to make policy planning more inclusive and timely.

“I had tried to break the ritualistic tradition of presenting policies and programs without incorporating lawmakers' feedback. Last year, an ordinance was issued to unveil the policies three months before the budget, but it was later scrapped just to maintain authoritarian control,” he said.
He claimed the government was driven by a majoritarian mindset and had ignored complex economic challenges. “Even ruling party lawmakers are not enthusiastic about this policy document. It doesn’t address the difficulties facing the economy and serves only to maintain outdated traditions,” he said.
Dahal recommended that the government include a provision to form a high-level commission in the policy and program to investigate the assets of all public officials who have held positions since 2047 BS (1990 AD).
He also called for judicial investigations into all major corruption scandals. “Without such steps, talking about good governance while bathing in the pool of corruption will be no different than the emperor’s new clothes,” he said.
