Maoist Center will have 35 percent women, 20 percent youths in all party committees

KATHMANDU, April 27: The CPN (Maoist Center) has announced new provisions to ensure representation of at least 35 percent women members in all the committees of the party including the central committee. 


A meeting of the party’s Standing Committe held on Tuesday endorsed an interim party statute that makes it mandatory to ensure 35 percent women, 20 percent youths under 40 years of age and 15 percent members from the Dalit community in all its party committees.

Party Spokesperson, Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the newly-introduced provisions will come into force with immediate effect. “We have made a provision of at least a woman in the executive post in all the committees of the party,” he added.  


Informing media persons about the decisions of the meeting held on Tuesday, Spokesperson Shrestha said that at least 15 percent seats are ensured for the leaders from Dalit community. Similarly, proportionate representation of various groups of people would be ensured on the basis of their population while forming provincial, district and local level party committees. 


The party’s central committee will be of a maximum of 299 members including chairman, vice-chairman, general secretary, secretary and treasurer.
