Managing Facebook memories

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Facebook's 'On This Day' feature is like re-reading long forgotten letters and flipping through old photo albums, and celebrating treasured friendships. But not all memories it brings back are pleasant.

Who would want to wake up to the memory of the lovey-dovey conversation you had with your ex who cheated on you? Or why would you want to be reminded of that awful photo an annoying friend tagged you in? If there's a person you're friends with on Facebook by compulsion, you wouldn't want to be reminded of that horrible day you were made to "accept" his/her friend request. Maybe a certain time period in your life isn't something you would want to revisit.Well, instead of completely turning off the notifications for this feature, you can actually control the kind of memories you want to see. Whether you want to exclude memories about particular people or you don't want to be reminded of a particular time, the control is in your hands. Here's how:

To filter memories about a person:

1. Go to facebook.com/onthisday
2. Click 'Preferences'
3. Click 'Edit' next to 'People'
4. Enter the names of the people you don't want to see memories with
5. Click 'Save'

To filter memories for dates:

1. Go to facebook.com/onthisday
2. Click 'Preferences'
3. Click 'Edit' next to 'Dates'
4. Click 'Select Dates'
5. Select a start and end date for the date or dates you don't want to see memories from, then click 'Done'
6. Click 'Save'
