Major five parties decide to continue top-level talks

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The meeting of the five big parties has decided to continue the talks with agitating Madhesi Front to sort out the problems.

This decision was taken soon after the talks between the leaders of the three big parties and the leaders of the agitating Madhesi Front was concluded inconclusively today itself.


The meeting held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Baluwatar this morning concluded without any conclusion as the Front remained rigid in its stance on seeking a solution to the impasse in a package deal only, it is learnt.

The meeting has further decided to continue the talks on the basis of constitution amendment bill tabled in the parliament to find the meeting point.

Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Bhim Rawal informed that the talks would be continued for resolution. He added that the government was serious to sort out the problems holding discussions either at the level of taskforce or high level.

DPM Rawal added that the meeting between the big three parties and front concluded without any conclusion as the Front remained rigid in its stance on seeking a solution to the impasse in a package deal only.

UCPN (Maoist) Vice-chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the meeting decided to continue the talks for the solution. He added the resolution could be found on the basis of constitution amendment bill with slight changes either in language or content.

Similarly, Nepali Congress leader and member at the taskforce Mahesh Acharya added that the main demand of the front about the delineation of provinces could be resolved after formulation of a political committee and other demands could be addressed through the amendment bill tabled in the parliament.

The senior leader of big five parties Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, UCPN (Maoist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic had participated the meeting. RSS
