A committee formed by locals to exert pressure on the government to construct an international level airport in Pokhara has enforced the shutdown protesting delay in the construction work. [break]
The rely hunger strike which started Thursday has also continued today. The committee members have also staged a sit-in in front of Pokhara airport this morning.
The agitating locals have also closed all the government offices in Dhaulagiri and other parts of Gandaki and stopped government employees from entering their offices.
They have chanted slogans against the government in front of Nepal Telecom Office, Internal Revenue Office, Salt Trading Corporation, District Development Committee, District Forest Office, Land Revenue Office and Nepal Electricity Authority among others.
"Government vehicles will also be disallowed to ply on the road from this morning," said the committee´s chairman Krishna Mohan Shrestha.
Earlier, Tourism Minister Posta Bahadur Bogati had sought two-week´s time to start the construction work but no initiative has been taken in this regard.
A day earlier, Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun had also ruled out the possibility of starting the process for initiation of the Pokhara international airport project in the near future citing legal hurdles and procedural flaws in the loan agreement and tender procedure.
