KATHMANDU, Nov 10: The new political party being formed under the leadership of Energy Minister Kul Man Ghising will officially be called ‘Ujyalo Nepal’ (Bright Nepal), party insiders confirmed on Monday.
Supporters and close associates of Minister Ghising have been expediting the groundwork for the party’s formation in recent weeks. While earlier discussions had centered on naming the party ‘Rastriya Janasewa Party’—a name some believed carried a broader public appeal—the leadership ultimately reached a consensus on ‘Ujyalo Nepal’, viewing it as a symbolic reflection of Ghising’s popular legacy for ending load-shedding in Nepal.

According to participants in the ongoing internal discussions, the party will be led by coordinator Anup Kumar Upadhyay, who is expected to be formally endorsed as the party chairperson. “We are still holding internal meetings to finalize the party’s activities and organizational structure,” said one member involved in the discussions. “Once the internal deliberations conclude, we will make our decisions public.”
Party officials have indicated that preparations are underway to register the party with the Election Commission either by tonight or tomorrow morning. “If the internal documentation and signature process are completed in time, the registration will be done today itself; otherwise, it will be filed tomorrow,” the official added.
The formation of Ujyalo Nepal marks a new chapter in Nepal’s evolving political landscape, drawing attention due to Ghising’s reputation as a technocrat credited with restoring uninterrupted electricity across the country during his tenure as the Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.
