KATHMANDU, Dec 6: In a bid to get rid of hassle-involved process to regulate houses, land and rent taxes due to lack of data on the number of houses, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) today formally launched the digital recording of house maps.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa launched the digital system amid a function, although the KMC introduced the system as pilot project two years ago, with joint help of the United Nations Development Programme and UKaid.

With the digitisation, people needing to have their house maps approved by the KMC can apply online, while registration of house maps will be based on Geographical Information System, through which the details of locations, areas, and structure of every house will be collected, KMC officials said.

They added said that the system will be applied to KMC wards-1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16, 29, 32, 33, 34 and 35 and that it will be expanded in all wards within the Nepali month of coming Asadh.

Speaking at the event, DPM Thapa said that the new digital system will prove to be a boon for the residents of KMC as unlike in traditional system, they will need not to have hassles to get their house maps approved. RSS
