The body of 21-year-old Sahani was found on Monday afternoon, according to Superintendent of Police Ram Prasad Shrestha. He was reportedly kidnapped by an unidentified gang while he was returning home on a bicycle after selling fish at the Pokharbhinda Bazaar.
He was kidnapped from Sasaula -4, the District Police office, Mahottari said. Sahani was found mercilessly killed by his kidnappers. His eyes were covered with a cloth band, mouth was filled with sand and hands and legs were fractured, SP Shrestha said. [break]
The Office has planned to send Sahani´s body to the District Hospital Jaleshwor for postmortem. According to the Sahani family, kidnappers called them at around 10:00 am Sunday and demanded a ransom of Rs. one million citing for his safe release.
Following kidnappers´ call, the family contacted the police and they again received a threat call from kidnappers and warned of further consequences.
Fish selling was a source of income for the middle class Sahani family. The Jwala Singh group , an armed outfit agitating in the Terai, has claimed the responsibility for the killing of Sahani. Police said that they were investigating the case.
Earlier on Sunday, an-all party meeting of different political parties and human rights activists expressed serious concern over increasing incidents of criminal activities in the district and submitted a memorandum to the District Police Office, demanding security.
