According to Chief District Officer (CDO), Dipak Raj Nepal, the public notice was issued to make the district free from illegal arms and to maintain law and order. The people have been asked to surrender their arms and ammunition at the nearest police station. [break]
CDO Nepal also informed that those submitting the illegal weapons within the deadline will not face any action but those who defy the notice would be punished as per the law.
The notice says if illegal arms and ammunition are found after the deadline then the owner could face jail of up to five years or fine of up to Rs 100,000 or both.
CDO Nepal also informed that besides DAO and District Police office, people can submit the illegal arms in their possession to the area police offices at Aiselukharka, Khotang Bazar and Chisapani. DAO has also informed that the number of people possessing illegal arms in the district is high due to security concerns and for the sake of prestige.
