KATHMANDU, March 30: Authorities in Kavre and Sindhupalchok have stepped up vigilance to keep bird flu at bay. Following discussions among officials, testing and surveillance will be increased to minimize the risk of the virus entering the districts.
The District Livestock Office in Dhulikhel is taking no chances. With bird flu detected in poultry in other parts of Nepal, stricter safety measures have been put in place. Border checkpoints will see tighter monitoring, while poultry farms will undergo regular inspections.
Kavre on high alert to prevent entry of bird flu
The Mangalatar checkpoint, a key entry point for poultry from the Terai, will face rigorous checks. Monitoring will also be intensified at eastern entry points to the Kathmandu Valley, including Sanga and Nalal.
Authorities are also rolling out awareness campaigns on the risks and impacts of bird flu. Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari said additional technical staff will be deployed at Mangalatar to ensure rapid testing, with samples from incoming poultry tested immediately. District Livestock Office Chief Bajra Kishor Thakur added that coordination with other agencies is underway to ensure preparedness against any outbreak.
