He returned from Jajarkot with a commitment to contribute something to the place and its people. Once back in Switzerland, he would talk to his children about the poverty he had found there and about issues like health, education and lack of road access."Nature has made Jajarkot beautiful and people there are friendly. But the place has been cheated by geography and development; so we need to do something," Katrin, who is currently in Jajarkot to reialize her father's dream, heard these words from her father's lips 50 years ago.
She is currently in Jajarkot running a five-day free operation camp for orthopedic and neurological treatment, through an organization that she set up herself.
A team of 18 medical personnel, including six orthopedic doctors and neurologists have reached Jajarkot with Katrin, who is also an orthopedic physician. She said she is elated to be in Jajarkot to fulfill her father's dream. She also further praised Jajarkot's beauty.This is her third visit there.
Quoting her father, she said, "The development of a village should always be dual."
Diretor at the Nepal Orthopedic Hospital at Jorpati, Dr Rajesh Maharjan, informed that they will operate on 70 patients and provide medical assistance and drugs to over 20,000 at the camp that will run till Tuesday. He also informed that they will provide treatment in Kathmandu to those patients who can't be treated in Jajarkot.
The estimated cost for the five-day camp is around 30,000 dollars and it will be borne by Med Solutions Foundation Switzerland, the foundation run by Katrin.
The health camp organized in coordination with lawmaker Rajeev Bikram Shah has received managerial and organizational support from Panch Tare Yuwa Protection Manch, the district health office, Kumari Trust Jajarkot and Rotary International, according to Maharjan.
Locals from Rukum, Salyan, Surkhet and Dolpa districts can also avail themselves of the services of the camp.
