KASKI, Oct 4: The Kaski District Administration Office has urged tourists to avoid trekking in high Himalayan regions, citing the possibility of snowfall and heavy rainfall in the coming days.
The administration issued the advisory after forecasts predicted moderate to heavy rainfall across the country, including Gandaki Province, from October 4 to 6. Officials warned that snowfall could occur in higher altitudes, posing serious risks for trekkers.

Assistant Chief District Officer Shiva Prasad Lamsal said a public notice has been issued cautioning against trekking to world-famous routes such as the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Mardi Himal Base Camp, Machhapuchhre Model Trek, Kapuche, Khumai, and other destinations.
“The possibility of snowfall in the high Himalayan areas is high. Considering the safety of life, we have requested people not to set out on trekking routes at this time,” Lamsal said.
During Dashain holidays in past years, trekking routes in the region were crowded with both domestic and international trekkers. However, this year’s advisory against trekking, issued amid heavy rainfall and snowfall forecasts, has already begun to affect tourism. Hotels and restaurants along the trekking trails, which usually fill up during Dashain and Tihar, are likely to see fewer visitors.
The administration also called on the public to remain alert against possible disasters such as floods, landslides, inundation, and snowfall. It urged people to immediately contact their local government, representatives, nearby police units, or security agencies in case of emergencies.
