KAPILVASTU, Sept 15: Locals in Kapilvastu marked Wednesday as a Black Day remembering the 2007 riot victims.

The killing of a local leader, Mohit Khan, on the same day in 2007 had ignited widespread unrest in and around the district, killing at least 14 people, causing extensive destruction and looting of property as well as the displacement of many people.[break]

Mahadev Pokharel, coordinator of Kapilvastu riot struggle committee, said they celebrated today as a black day recalling the deadly violence.

Though the government had formed a three-member commission headed by the then Rajbiraj Appellate Court judge Lokendra Mallik to probe the riot, the panel´s final report hasn´t made public yet, Pokharel said.
