The name of the merged party will be ‘Nagarik Janamat Party,’ and the election symbol will remain the ‘Dhakiya,’ currently used by NUP.
The current election symbol of the Janamat Party is the ‘Horn’. The merged party will be named ‘Nagarik Janamat Party,’ a decision made to represent both parties' current names.
The agreement was reached because the unified name 'Nagarik Janamat Party' would also represent the current names of both parties. A leader from the JP mentioned, “Since our party's chairman will also be the chairman of the unified party, we are ready to let go of our election symbol I.e. the horn.”
Both parties have formed a task force to prepare the integration framework. The task force formed by NUP includes Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Ram Lal Tharu and Sunita Chaudhary, while the task force from the Janamat Party consists of Abdul Khan, Sharat Singh Yadav, and Balgobind Chaudhary. According to Gurung, both task forces have been working for three days and are expected to prepare the integration framework and submit their report within a week. Following that, the formal announcement of the merger will be made.
Initially, Ranjita Shrestha was not willing to relinquish the position of Chairperson. “Ranjita Shrestha was in favor of the merger, but she did not want to give up the chairperson’s position. However, it seems that under pressure from the party's senior figures, including Patron Resham Chaudhary, she has agreed to step down from the chairperson's role,” said a leader from NAUPA.
Initially, Ranjita Shrestha was not willing to relinquish the position of president. "Ranjita Shrestha was in favor of the merger, but she did not want to give up the president's position. However, it seems that under pressure from the party's senior figures, including Patron Resham Chaudhary, she has agreed to step down from the president's role," said a leader from NUP.
According to the leader, Ranjita Shrestha became positive towards the merger after the creation of the Vice President position for her. There has been a long-standing dispute between Resham and Ranjita within NUP. Some time ago, their conflict escalated to the point where the party nearly faced a split.
In the House of Representatives, the Janamat Party has six members, including one directly elected, while NUP has four members. Following the recent elections, Janamat successfully became a national party, while NUP did not. After the merger between Janamat and NUP, it will become a major party focused on the Terai and Madhesh region.
