KATHMANDU April 29: The Nagrik Unmukti Party (NUO) and the Janamat Party are set to officially announce their unification on Wednesday. The announcement will take place at the Nepal Academy Hall. Both parties have been engaged in the unification process for a long time and they have now nearly finalized the process.
“All processes have been completed. Only the official announcement remains,” said Rajan Gurung, Deputy General Secretary of the NUP. According to him, Resham Chaudhary will hold the top position in the unified party, serving as the patron. CK Raut will be second in rank and will assume the role of Chairperson of the Executive Committee.

Similarly, Ranjita Shrestha will be third in rank and will take the position of Vice-Chairperson. After the merger, the new party will be named Nagarik Janamat Party.
The election symbol of the unified party will be the "dhakiya" from the NUP. As for the flag, it will be a combination of the ones currently used by both NUP and Janamat parties.
During the unification program, a 25-member secretariat and a 51-member Executive Committee will be announced. The Central Committee may consist of 700 members, but its final composition has not yet been decided, added Gurung.
In the current parliament, Janamat Party has six members, including one directly elected, while NUP has four. After the merger, the new party will become a major force centered in the Terai-Madhesh region.
