Indian national held in Biratnagar with Nepali currency of undisclosed source

An Indian national has been arrested near the Nepal-India border in Biratnagar with Rs 700,000 in Nepali currency with undisclosed source, police said.

MORANG, April 19:  An Indian national has been arrested near the Nepal-India border in Biratnagar with Rs 700,000 in Nepali currency with undisclosed source, police said.


According to DSP Bed Prakash Joshi, spokesperson for Morang Police, 50-year-old Sudhir Srivastava of Jogbani, India, was detained by a team led by Inspector Prakash Thapa on Friday afternoon.

Srivastava was entering Nepal on a motorcycle (Ko 18 Pa 4179) from Jogbani and was intercepted near Hanuman Temple in Biratnagar-15 after officers grew suspicious. Upon searching him, police discovered 400 notes of Rs 500 denomination and 500 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, totaling Rs 700,000.


Srivastava is currently being held at the Rani Area Police Office for further investigation. The source and purpose of the money remain unclear, and police plan to hand him over to the Department of Revenue Investigation in Itahari for further action.
