KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Although the fear of COVID-19 transmission has forced people to stay at distance and festivities have been called off, it hasn't let people down.

With the authorities easing lockdown restrictions, people are seen flocking to markets to collect kites and threads to stay connected with each other during the pandemic.

Flying Kites during Dashain

The market of Ason in the heart of the Kathmandu Valley is all set to convey the message of the arrival of the Dashain festival with kites being sold and people willing to grab them.

With the sky yet to be clear, people, especially children whose schools have been confined to the silver screens owing to COVID-19 fears are seen enjoying kite surfing.

Taken as a symbol to appeal to Lord Indra to stop rain and indicating the arrival of  major festivals, there is a long-established tradition of flying kites.
