Home Minister Lekhak resigns over violence in Gen Z protests

Citing the need to take moral responsibility for the incident, Lekhak said he chose to resign.

KATHMANDU, Sept 8:  Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.



A cabinet minister told Republica that Lekhak submitted his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during the cabinet meeting held on Monday evening.

Monday’s Gen Z protest turned violent and at least 19 people have lost their lives in police fire.


Citing the need to take moral responsibility for the incident, Lekhak said he chose to resign.


Earlier, he had informed his party’s meeting held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba that he would not remain in office on moral grounds.
