This is the first occasion that women's national selection tournament was conducted, informed Bidhya Sagar Pokharel, coach as well as coordinator of the selection committee.
The wrestling event for women has been included in the SAG for the first time.
In the women's selection event, Sumitra Rai of Ilam came first in the 48 kg event. Sumitra beat Puja Kumari Shreewastav of Parsa in the final.
Ishwari Thapa of Kanchanpur was selected in the women's 53 kg event as she defeated Roshani Rai of Ilam in the final while Sarmila of Dhankuta was selected for the 55 kg event. Sarmila edged past Radhika Rokaya of the same district.
Meanwhile, the association picked Laxmi Khatri of Kanchanpur in 58 kg, Kabita Pun of Rukum in 60 kg, Saptari's Shanti Chaudhary in 63 kg, Lila Singh in 69 kg and Bhanu Thapaliya of Morang for 75 kg events. The five women players were selected without competing as they did were not challenged by any opponent in their respective weight categories, according to the association. Only 11 players competed for the women's events.
Meanwhile, Satyendra Prasad Yadav, the silver medalist of the 11th SAG, booked his place in men's 125 kg event for the 12th SAG. He was also the lone contender of his weight category in the absence of opponent.
Likewise, Jaya Mangal Yadav of Parsa recorded win in 57 kg, Bara's Ram Babu Yadav and Premalal Yadav and Bhagwat Sah of Rautahat were victorious in 61 kg matches, Saroj Yadav of Parsa and Dhup Lal Prasad Yadav of Bara recorded wins in 65 kg bouts.
Similarly, Bheshraj Pandit of Tribhuvan Army Club and Sandesh Pandit of Bara were victorious in 74 kg, Ramesh Gotame of Banke and silver medalist of 10th SAG Bunilal Yadav of Bara recorded wins in 86 kg section, while Sumir Sah of Parsa and Jitendra Prasad Yadav of Siraha won their respective fights in 97 kg event on the same day.
Seven more players will be picked in the men's section on Tuesday, the final day of the selection. Altogether 36 players are vying in the men's category.
