High-level political committee to assist govt

KATHMANDU, Oct 15: The ruling parties formed a High-Level Political Committee (HLPC) under the leadership of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday to assist the functioning of the government.

The first meeting of the committee held at Singha Durbar later in the day decided to invite the agitating political parties for a dialogue.CPN-UML senior leadears Jhala Nath Khanal and Madhav Nepal, Vice-Chairman Bidhya Bhandari, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa and Madhesi People's Right Forum Democratic (MPRF-D) Chairman Bijay Gachhedar are among the members of the committee.

The first meeting of the HLPC also decided to cooperate with the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) over national issues and to initiate efforts to end the fuel crisis in the country, among other things.

"We have decided to request the agitating political parties to change the form of their protest and withdraw the obstruction on the Nepal-India border. Leaders will put in efforts from their side to ease the fuel supply," said HLPC coordinator Dahal.

CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainali, Nepal Workers Peasants Party Chairman Narayan Man Bijukchhe, Rastriya Janamorcha Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC and Ganesh Sah of CPN-Unified are also members of the committee.
