DHORPATAN, March 21: Heavy snowfall has hit the high-altitude areas of Baglung, including Dhorpatan, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, leaving the region covered in a thick layer of snow.
The snowfall, which began on Friday afternoon, has turned Dhorpatan completely white, disrupting daily life in the area.
Snowfall in Dhorpatan affects life
According to local resident Dhan Bahadur BK of Dhorpatan Municipality–9, the entire Dhorpatan valley and surrounding areas have been blanketed in snow. He said the snowfall has made it difficult even to feed livestock.
He added that the area had been experiencing light rainfall for the past few days, and the snowfall has continued since then, making movement difficult for locals.
Many residents had recently arrived in Dhorpatan from areas such as Bobang and Adhikarichaur to plant potatoes, but the snowfall has affected their work.
“Snowfall in the month of Chaitra used to be rare, but this time it came just as temperatures were beginning to rise,” BK said. “This is usually the busy season for planting potatoes, but the snow has disrupted our work. We needed some rain, but the snowfall has made daily life difficult.”
Another local, Tularam Pun, said the snowfall has significantly increased the cold. Continuous snowfall since last night has made it hard for people to go outside and carry out daily activities, including feeding livestock.
