KATHMANDU, May 30: The Ministry of Education (MoE) is working to again reschedule the Grade 11 exams.

According to the original academic calendar of the National Examinations Board, the Grade 11 exams were scheduled to begin on May 7. It was deferred to June 15 after the government fixed May 14 for the local elections, which were to be held at one-go across the country. But after the government decided to hold the elections in two phases and fixed June 14 for the second phase elections, the Ministry of Education rescheduled the exams for June 22. But recently, the government has again rescheduled the second phase of the elections for June 23 and this has forced the ministry to again reschedule the exams.

There are 449,000 students studying in Grade 11 across the country.

"The exams cannot be held on June 23 as most of the schools have been fixed as polling stations," said Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal, spokesman at the MoE. "So, we are working to reschedule the exams again," he said.

"The rescheduling of the exams will certainly hamper the Grade 12 academic calendar. We are in consultations for fixing a new date for the exams, which could be held before June 23. But we are unsure about whether it will be possible to print the question papers," said Lamsal. "We will make an official decision about the exams tomorrow (Wednesday)," he added.
