The Armed Violence Reduction and Strengthening Community Security (AVRSCS) project—a joint initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) — has invested in the first phase to set up a surveillance control room at the District Police Office, Banke and install half a dozen CCTV cameras at key strategic locations in the town.

Speaking at a multi stakeholder meeting held recently, Chief District Officer of Banke District Bed Prasad Lekhak Said, "The issue of security is important for all of us. The idea of CCTVs surveillance originated from community security planning process."
Through this public private partnership, CCTVs will be installed phase wise to provide round-the-clock monitoring of all the strategic localities of Nepalgunj to step up public security, Dev Raj Limbu, Communications and Reporting Officer at the AVRSCS, told Republica.
According to the AVRSCS, the monitoring coverage will be extended in the second phase to other key sensitive localities with funds from local development bodies such as Municipality, District Development Committee and government agencies.

The comprehensive surveillance system with Solar power backup estimated to cost around 15 million rupees when completed will also be expanded to all other parts of the city with collaboration and investment of private sector led by Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in the next 3-6 months.
Congratulating the FNCCI members for their financial investment in the CCTV surveillance system, UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer said, "Investing in CCTV surveillance system is indeed a social investment to benefit the community."
