KATHMANDU, June 10: Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat left for New Delhi on Wednesday to invite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend an international conference of donor agencies scheduled to be held in Kathmandu on June 25.

Minister Mahat will invite Modie as well as other ministers of Indian government.

The government is hopeful of collecting resources to finance rebuilding works in quake-affected districts.According to finance ministry officials, Mahat is in India on the invitation of Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitely. Jaitely had invited Mahat before the earthquake.

Mahat will also hold discussion with Jaitely on allocation of funds to different projects to be financed by soft loan of Rs 100 billion announced by Modi during his Nepal visit in August last year, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

Other agendas include requesting India to provide notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination while exchanging Indian currency with US dollar.

The government buys Indian currency by using US dollar to make payment to India as Nepal's dependency on trade with India is huge.

Mahat will also raise the issue of allowing Nepalis to open bank accounts in India and removing countervailing duty on Nepalis goods, among others, according to the release.
