Govt, Tarai outfit ink 6-pt deal

KATHMANDU, April 18: The government on Wednesday signed a six-point understanding with United Revolutionary Tarai Madhes Liberation Front (URTMLF), an armed outfit operating in the Tarai, in Hetauda, Makawanpur.



As per the agreement, the government would release the arrested URTMLF cadres. [break]



On the other hand, the front has expressed its commitment to peaceful politics, among other things, reads a press statement issued by the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction.



“We have agreed to withdraw cases against URTMLF cadres and begin the process of releasing them. On the other hand, the front has made commitments to abide by the law of the land,” the statement quoted Peace and Reconstruction Minister Satya Pahadi, who led the government´s talks team, as saying. The five-member talks team of URTMLF was headed by Biwas Bidrohi.
