KATHMANDU, April 10: The government has declared a public holiday on Eid-ul-Fitr (Eid), a major festival celebrated by the Muslim community.
Rudra Prasad Pandit, joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, said that the government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Eid, which falls on Thursday.

The public holiday has been announced according to a notice published in the gazette on March 15 last year. Earlier, the Muslim Commission submitted a recommendation to the government for a holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
