Govt cancels physical bond certificates, bans paper transactions

In a notice issued on Monday, the PDMO announced that all physical certificates have been canceled and transactions based on paper certificates are now prohibited.

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) has completed the dematerialization (demat) of government bonds, including treasury bills and development bonds, issued for raising internal loans.


In a notice issued on Monday, the PDMO announced that all physical certificates have been canceled and transactions based on paper certificates are now prohibited.

The ownership details, principal and interest payments, secondary market transactions and collateral-related processes will now be managed digitally through the Debt Operations and Management Software.


The PDMO has instructed that no transactions, including buying, selling or using bonds as collateral, should be conducted using physical certificates
