Government to install half a dozen CCTV cameras in Nepalgunj

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The government is all set to install half a dozen CCTV cameras at sensitive locations of Nepalgunj in a bid to strengthen the city's security.

The cameras are being installed under the Armed Violence Reduction and Strengthening Community Security (AVRSCS) project, which has been jointly initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). As per the first phase plan, the UNDP has invested to set up the surveillance control room at the District Police Office, Banke.The project is estimated to cost around Rs 15 million, which would include solar power backup. It would be expanded to all other parts of the city in collaboration and investment from private sector headed by the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

"The CCTV cameras would strengthen the city's security. The issue of security is important for all of us," said Bed Prasad Lekhak, chief district officer of Banke.

"Investing in CCTV surveillance system is indeed a social investment to benefit the community," said UNDP Country Director Renaud Meyer, issuing a press release.
