Gender alliance against climate change

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: A Global Gender Climate Alliance Nepal (GGCAN) was formed on Friday with 19 national level organizations as its members. The alliance has formed a seven-member working committee with Bandana Rana, President of Saathi, as its coordinator. Other members of the committee are Sancharika Samuha, Jagaran Nepal, Nepalese Youth for Climate Action, Youth Awareness Environment Forum and Center for Rural Technology.



The alliance will work to catalyze wider engagement of women in all climate change initiatives and policy dialogue, a press release issued by Saathi said, adding, it also aims to raise awareness, build capacity and share knowledge, information and experience at local, regional and national levels. It will initiate discussions on concrete challenges in relation to gender and climate change and engage in collective advocacy for gender integration and women´s leadership in all climate change processes through advocacy, research and documentation. The alliance will also promote coherence and facilitate linkages with concerned stakeholders nationally and internationally.



The meeting nominated Dr Arju Rana Deuba as its advisor.
