KATHMANDU, Sept 28 : Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has reported a sharp decline in tourist arrivals following the recent Gen-Z protests. According to the NTB, incidents of vandalism, arson, and looting during the protests have hurt Nepal’s tourism sector.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on the occasion of World Tourism Day, NTB CEO Joshi said that tourist arrivals fell by 45 percent compared to the same period last year. “In the first week of Ashwin last year, daily arrivals averaged 3,300–3,400. This year, the number had dropped to around 1,600 immediately after the protests,” he said.

He added that while the unrest dampened the sector just as peak season was starting, the situation is now stabilizing. Arrivals recovered to 2,300 in the week after the protests and recently reached 2,900 per day.
Joshi also said NTB has strengthened its information system to provide accurate updates, aiming to restore confidence and promote sustainable tourism in Nepal.
