KATHMANDU, March 17: The Sunakhari Youth Club, in an initiative to raise funds to establish a community library, is screening the Nepali movie “Dasdhunga” in Dharan, Biratnagar, Gaighat, and Thokshila in the Udaypur District.

The first screening is scheduled to be held at Hattisar Campus in Dharan on Sunday. The screening will also be followed by an interaction program with the film’s director Manoj Pandit. [break]

The funds raised will be used to establish the Sunakhari Community Library at Lal Bazaar in Thokshila.

The Sunakhari Youth Club, established in 1999, has been working to bring about local development. The youth club hopes that the library will be a meeting place for young students as well as dropouts. They hope that the library will be used as a recreational center by the community and help people meet and learn.

“The reason behind setting up this library is to bring changes in the reading habits of students,” said Ishwar Rauniyar, Advisory Council Chairman of the Club. “The library will work as an eye opener for students and will provide them a window to the world outside of the course books. Since there is no electricity in any of the villages in Thokshila, we don’t have access to television; so this library could be the only link them to the world outside,” he adds.

The movie is scheduled for screening on March 20 at City Hall at Gaighat, Udaypur, March 21 and 22 at Thokshila and March 31 at Gurukul, Biratnagar.
