NEPALGUNJ, June 19: Four girls who were being lured into going to India with fake promises have been rescued from the border near Nepalgunj. Police have arrested an agent involved in taking the girls away.

The girls were rescued by a team from Saathi, an NGO working for women, and India's Seema Surakhya Bal (SSB), from different points while they were crossing the border.

Saathi's Vigilance and Information Counseling Center in Nepalgunj rescued Jina B.K, 18, from Morang and Sarita B.K, 18, from Itahari. Rescue officers from Saathi informed that they caught up with the three girls as they were in a rickshaw heading towards Rupaidia.

Similarly, India's SSB rescued Manisha Mardi, 17, a resident of Jhapa, Surunga, from its checkpost. She had already crossed the Nepal-India border at the time.

Raj Chaudhari aka Roshan, the agent involved in transporting the girls, is at large. However, Indian police have arrested Obisara Rana, who was with Manisha, and handed him over to Nepal Police.

Manisha is being kept at the Maiti Nepal office while three others are at the Saathi office for their own protection

According to the rescued girls, the agent took all four of them from Kathmandu and kept them at the same hotel in Nepalgunj, Wednesday. They were given Rs. 500 each for crossing the border. They informed that they were told to say "We are going to buy vegetables in Rupaidia." The three girls were in three separate rickshaws.

The rescue officers from Saathi told Republica that the girls didn't tell the truth at first while being interrogated at the border. It was only later that they disclosed the facts.

DSP at District Police Office Banke, Sushil Singh Rathor said that the investigations have been going smoothly as the women involved in transporting the women have been arrested.

"Preliminary investigations show that two agents have tried to take four Nepali girls to India," Rathor said.

Arrested Rana has recorded a statement that they were being taken to third countries via India for employment .
