KATHMANDU, Dec 28: Former Supreme Court (SC) Justice Prakash Wasti has passed away. According to family and hospital sources, he died on Friday night following a heart attack. After the heart attack, he was taken to Norvic Hospital in Thapathali.
He served as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court for nearly six years. Appointed on September 7, 2008, he retired as an Acting Justice on April 12, 2014, after his term was not extended.

Following his retirement from the SC, Wasti served as a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for six years. He worked under the leadership of former Chief Justice Anupraj Sharma from October 19, 2014, to October 17, 2020. Afterward, he led a retired life, focusing on studying, researching, and writing books on justice and law.
In 2006, he served as a member of the "Judiciary Public Confidence Enhancement Study Committee" formed by the Supreme Court Bar Association. The team, including Wasti, submitted a report revealing the significant influence of middlemen in the courts. He was also a member of the "Corruption-Free Judiciary Development Study Task Force" formed by the Supreme Court in 2009.
Born on June 21, 1953, Wasti entered the legal profession in 1976. He also worked as a legal advisor to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority under the leadership of Surya Nath Upadhyaya. He was conferred the title of Senior Advocate in 2008.
