KATHAMANDU, July 17: Tourism expert and former CEO of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Dr Dhananjay Regmi, has joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Addressing the event, Dr Regmi said he chose RSP after concluding that the country’s prosperity was not possible under traditional political forces. Having spent most of his life in science, research, and tourism development, he claimed he would now use that experience in nation-building through politics.

Regmi clarified that he had never been affiliated with any political party before, but he decided to join RSP because of its policy clarity and ethical leadership. Expressing concern over what he termed as state-led suppression and character assassination attempts against RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, he announced full support for Lamichhane’s leadership.

Born in Syangja district, Dr Regmi is a long-time researcher in Himalayan geography, environment, climate change, and tourism in Nepal.

During his tenure as CEO, Regmi was embroiled in various controversies.
