There's an app for everything these days. Whether you are looking for something to make lists, create a fun collage, or to listen to free music, there are millions of apps for all of that and more. And then, there are hundreds of apps to help you lose weight by counting calories, and maintaining a strict diet or exercise regime. But which apps are worthy of your time and precious phone storage? The ratings only tell you part of the story. Here are some apps that we tried and tested ourselves and would like to recommend to you as well.

My Fitness Pal
Thanks to My Fitness Pal, counting calories is so easy. By using the app's extensive database of brand name foods, you can log most meals in under a minute. If you've whipped something up, just put in the recipe and the app will estimate its calorie content. Once you start using it regularly, it even understands your diet and saves a list of your favorite foods.

Every workout will be challenging enough for you but it won't leave you panting and heaving. Created by former NFL star Tony Gonzalez, this app is perfect for beginners as well as fitness enthusiasts.

FitNotes Gym Workout Log

FitNotes is a free app that features no advertisements, and includes an exercise database to help you properly categorize your workouts. This is a workout log so you can keep track of what you're doing, and you can create custom routines and workouts tailored to yourself. It's a must have app if you go to the gym or participate in DIY fitness.

Free on Android
Workout Trainer

This offers users thousands of free workouts complete with timed step-by-step audio and video instructions to help you get into shape. Whether you're looking to sculpt six-pack-abs or tone up, Workout Trainer has a routine just for you.
