FNJ for relief for quake-hit journos

KATHMANDU, June 15: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has decided to exert pressure on the government to introduce special package for relief and rehabilitation of journalists affected by the recent earthquake.

A Central Committee meeting of the FNJ held in Sindhupalchowk decided to urge Press Council Nepal and Department of Information to provide journalists with communication equipment, immediately release the amount of welfare advertisement to newspapers and provide newspaper with public welfare advertisement in proportionate manner.

The FNJ meeting has also warned media houses not to lay off journalists, delay salaries and force journalists to work in the vulnerable places. Likewise, the meeting also decided to take initiatives to rebuild the demolished buildings of FNJ chapters in district level.
