“The meeting held on Monday asked the taskforce to come up with private sector´s viewpoint on existing power crisis within a couple of weeks by holding interactions with experts, business entrepreneurs, officials of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), government officials, media persons and other stakeholders.[break]
Responding to NEA´s preparation to up electricity tariff, the FNCCI asked the government to defer tariff hike until power woes are addressed.
The meeting also sought government´s assurance for smooth functioning of proposed diesel plant before it is brought into operation. Similarly, it asked the government to immediately withdraw the recently enforced dual pricing for diesel and kerosene, stating that it will encourage black marketeering.
Amid growing incidents of extortion, donation drive, kidnappings and killings of businessmen, the apex organization of the business community also decided to suggest the government to arrange business police for the security of entrepreneurs.
The meeting also demanded that the government take initiative to ensure immediate release of businessman Pawan Shanghai who was abducted from the capital on Thursday and provide compensation to next of kin of gold traders murdered in recent days.
