KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been temporarily suspended after an electrical short circuit occurred on the runway, disrupting both domestic and international flights.
According to TIA officials, the short circuit took place at around 5:25 PM Saturday and is believed to have been caused by water seepage due to continuous rainfall. Preliminary findings suggest that an “edge light” located along the side of the runway was affected due to the rain.

Technicians from the TIA’s Electrical Department are working to identify and repair the fault.
TIA officials said a formal notice has been issued to inform airlines and aviation personnel about the temporary shutdown. The airport is expected to remain closed until 9:20 PM Saturday.
Following the incident, flights arriving from Dubai (Fly Dubai), Doha (Qatar Airways) and South Korea (Korean Air) were instructed to hold in the skies above Simara. A Buddha Air ATR aircraft arriving from Janakpur was also placed on hold in the same area.
Officials said no flights have been diverted so far. However, with departures from Kathmandu halted, the number of stranded passengers at the airport has continued to swell.
