KATHMANDU, June 20: Bara police have arrested five people, including the main accused, in connection with the beating a person to death in Kalaiya.
The accused were arrested from different locations and made public on Friday in connection with the killing of Nandu Raut Kurmi on June 12.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Bara, the investigation revealed that the murder occurred after a minor dispute involving the deceased’s niece escalated.

The wife of the deceased had slapped the son of the main accused, Umesh Jaiswal, and in retaliation, the Jaiswal family attacked Kurmi.
On the evening of June 12, in front of a rice mill located at Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City-14, Baghawan, the 50-year-old Kurmi, who was working there, was collectively beaten by Umesh Jaiswal, his wife, sons, and another person. Kurmi sustained serious injuries and later died during treatment at the hospital.
The police began investigations immediately after the incident and arrested the accused on different dates. Police arrested Digambar Shah Kalwar, 28, a resident of the same area, on the same day in connection with the incident.
According to the spokesperson of the DPO, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bijaya Raj Pandit, Digambar Prasad Jaiswal, who was involved in the incident, was arrested on June 13.
During the search for other absconding accused, on the night of June 18, Umesh’s wife, Ranju Devi, was arrested, and his two sons, Sumit and Sujit Jaiswal, were arrested from Birgunj, Parsa.
The main accused in the murder, Umesh Jaiswal, was successfully arrested on the night of June 19 from Bishrampur Rural Municipality.
All arrested individuals have been taken into custody for further investigation and legal action, the police said.
