KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Police have arrested five more individuals in connection with the vandalism and arson at the Itahari Area Police Office during the recent Gen-Z protests.
Itahari was among the worst-affected areas in the eastern region, with damage reported at several government and private properties.
According to police, the arrested individuals have been identified as Bijay Limbu, 32, of Ward 3, Madan Khatri, 45, of Ward 6, Dipendra Karki, 45, of Ward 5, Abas Karki, 30, of Ward 9 and Sanam Karki, 32, of Ward 4.

Among them, Madan is a hotel operator and Sanam is a private school teacher. All five were presented before the Sunsari District Court on Wednesday, where cases of criminal offenses have been filed against them.
Police said around 20 people are currently under suspicion for involvement in the arson and vandalism at the Area Police Office. The Itahari Area Police Office, the Nepal Police barracks, security offices, Pakali Area Police Office, Khannar Police Post, Halgada Police Post, and temporary police units in Khannar and Itahari all suffered damage.
Private and government properties, including the Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Pakali and several political party offices, were also vandalized. Authorities say identification of those involved is ongoing and more arrests are expected soon.
During the protests, several offices were attacked, including the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Office, Vehicle Testing Centre, Revenue Investigation Office, Internal Revenue Office, Transportation Service Office, Licensing Office, and even the residences of the Itahari mayor and Koshi Province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Law.
Police said the investigation is progressing at a high pace, and more members of infiltrating groups involved in the violence are likely to be arrested.
Two people died during the protests in Itahari: Mohan Sardar, 40, of Ward 14, and Abhishek Shrestha, 16, originally from Inaruwa and staying with relatives in Itahari.
