Five arrested on charge of defrauding foreign employment aspirants

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the suspects took large amounts of money from several people under false promises of employment in countries such as Germany, Georgia, Greece and South Korea.

KATHMANDU, July 25: Police have arrested five individuals accused of defrauding job seekers by promising to send them abroad for foreign employment.



According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the suspects took large amounts of money from several people under false promises of employment in countries such as Germany, Georgia, Greece and South Korea. After receiving the payments, they reportedly cut off contact with the victims.


Those arrested include Sajan Gurung, 35, originally from Lamjung and currently residing in Tokha Municipality-9; Deepak Thapa, 36, from Rupandehi, currently living in Mahalaxmi Municipality-8; Tek Bahadur KC, 47, from Dang, living in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-5; Bharat Prasad Pandey, 50, from Syangja, residing in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-23; and Prem Prasad Bhusal, 38, from Parbat, living in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3.

The investigation revealed that Gurung took Rs 1.28 million from one individual claiming he would arrange employment in Germany. Thapa collected Rs 600,000 from three people for jobs in Georgia. KC took Rs 2.1 million from six people for jobs in Greece, while Pandey collected Rs 2 million from three individuals, and Bhusal took Rs 3.35 million from three others — both claiming to offer jobs in South Korea.


Police arrested Gurung and KC from Ward 26 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Thapa was arrested from Ward 30 on Wednesday, while Pandey and Bhusal were taken into custody from Lalitpur Metropolitan City-15 on Thursday.


Authorities have handed all five suspects over to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal for further investigation and legal action.
