KATHMANDU, June 24: Delay in monsoon rainfall has taken toll on the paddy plantation, with only 10 percent of the rice field has been sown as of Monday.
According to the Department of Agriculture, paddy plantation has been completed only in 137,000 hectares of the arable land across the country. Despite a slow paddy plantation, the cultivated area increased by 0.4 percent this year compared to that of the last FY.
Paddy plantation reaches 94.15% amid drought and erratic rains
About 1.381 million hectares of land across the country are used for paddy plantation. As of Monday, Karnali Province witnessed the highest of 22.8 percent of its land planted with paddy, while a total of 2.3 percent land in Bagmati Province has completed the paddy plantation.
Only about five percent of land in Madhesh Province has witnessed paddy plantation. In terms of rice production and plantation area, the Terai region is considered suitable, with its contribution accounting for 70 percent in the country’s total rice production.
